Maintenance Tips for Your Mazda's First Year off the Lot

    Last updated 5 years ago

Between the new car smell, the purr of a brand new engine, the crisp feel of the center-stack controls, and that shiny finish, there’s no other feeling quite like driving a new Mazda. Some wear and tear is unavoidable, but there are things you can do to maintain your new Mazda during the first year of ownership:

    Break in the Engine

Many drivers simply can’t help themselves when they get behind the wheel of a new car, particularly when it’s a model known for its performance such as the MX-5 Miata or Mazda3. However, it’s important to restrain yourself and break in the engine properly. If your owner’s manual doesn’t specify a break-in procedure, simply avoid aggressive acceleration for the first thousand miles.

    Keep Up with Preventative Maintenance

When a new Mazda comes fresh from the factory, there are still a lot of sharp edges between moving parts which can turn into metal shavings. In general, the initial oil change will have a substantial amount of metal particles, so the first oil flush may be different from normal recommended guidelines. In short, read up on the service intervals in your Mazda owner’s manual and follow them closely.

    Protect the Paint

You'll keep your new car looking as good as the day it came off the lot when you wash it and wax it regularly. Just be sure to avoid using dirty towels or automatic washes with brushes since dirt particles can cause “spider webbing.” Also watch out for everyday acidic items like coffee, bird droppings, insects, and ash.

Here at Brown’s Fairfax Mazda, we’re here to ensure that you have the best ownership experience possible. Whether you’re shopping for a great deal on a new or pre-owned Mazda or simply looking for OEM Mazda parts, we can help. Mazda's Collision Avoidance Technologies

    Last updated 5 years ago

In an effort to protect what really matters, Mazda has developed various safety features to make every day driving that much easier and that much safer.

To address nighttime visibility issues, Mazda Adaptive Front Lighting responds to steering input and turns to keep the roadway visible during cornering. To mitigate the hazards of a high-speed highway impact, Mazda has incorporated a Blind Spot Monitoring System in several models throughout the lineup. Also, for better all-around awareness, a back-up camera can provide a clear line of sight directly behind the vehicle in reverse gear. Early reports from IIHS already suggest that Adaptive Front Lighting and Blind Spot Monitoring can lower the risk of damage and injury from serious collisions.

The sales associates here at Brown’s Fairfax Mazda will be happy to show you all of the latest safety features in the Mazda lineup. We’ve been helping residents of Virginia and the D.C.
